Dien Bien provincial police said that at 7 am this morning (September 7th), provincially functional forces found out and arrested 2 people illegally trading wild animals which are 2 pangolins with body weights at 9.5kg.

Specifically, during the working process in the area of Block 2, Tan Thanh ward, Dien Bien Phu city, the working group of the Economic Police Department of the Dien Bien Provincial Police discovered and made a record of violations for 2 people illegal transport of 2 wild animals. 

They are Dao Huy Thanh (year of birth 1988), and Lo Van Hon (year of birth 1994) both living in Na Khoang village, Muong Nha commune, Dien Bien district, Dien Bien province. 

Initially, they confessed to having bought 2 pangolins weighing 9.5kg from one local resident then they got arrested by the police force while on the way to transport to consumption. This is a type of wild animal belonging to group 1B – endangered rare species prioritized for protection according to Decree 06/2019 of the Prime Minister.

This case is currently under further investigation. For two pangolins, the authorities are completing the procedures to hand over to the Northern Regional Wildlife Rescue Center.
